Description: This project is a response to the energy efficient retrofit movement about to storm the middle class American housing stock.  Driven by the clients’ commitment to minimize energy consumption yet constricted by a budget, the building took on the simplest and most efficient form: a box. After deconstructing the existing building, the foundation will be reused. A new home utilizing sustainable building practice, renewable technology and salvaged kitchen and bath furnishings will be constructed for $100 per square foot.

Geothermal forced air HVAC with heat recovery air exchange
Well-insulated (2” icynene & 3 1/2” blown-in cellulose) for high performance airtight building
envelope
3.5 kW Photovoltaic System to offset electricity use.
Salvaged cedar siding and deck railings
Salvaged framing from deconstruction for interior framing
Salvaged furnishings include kitchen range & hood, refrigerator, bathroom tub sinks, toilets
and all bath fixtures
