A larger than normal lot allowed for a single story development on the Elder project. The program called for a central room combining the living and kitchen space with a sculptural partition.  It also called for lots of glass on the south wall to capture views of the flatirons and warm winter sun.  This however created an overheating issue that was solved with an awning supported by a super structure of 3 steel beams that were then woven back into the interior space connecting the 2 spaces of the central room and main partition.
